The La Liga schedule has been released (La Liga)

On match day 2, the Lions will travel to take on Eibar in their first Basque derby of the season. The following weekend, Gorka Iraizoz and Jonas Ramalho will make their return to Bilbao as Girona will play Athletic at the San Mames. The first game against one of the big three will take place on match day 5 when Athletic hosts Atletico Madrid. Cuco Ziganda and company will not see Real Sociedad until the middle of December and that game will also take place at the San Mames.

The second half of the season once again looks to be the most difficult. Athletic will have away games against Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Barcelona, Villarreal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Alaves. That will be a tall mountain to climb, but it is similar to what the Lions had to overcome last season. Luckily, they will end the year at home against Espanyol while direct opponents will have more difficult games. Villarreal will end their year hosting Real Madrid while Real Sociedad will be on the road against Barcelona. Sevilla will also have a tough match at home against Alaves.

Understandably, fans are impatiently waiting for the new La Liga season to begin. There is a ton of excitement in Bilbao, but the team must first focus on earning their place in the Europa League. On Thursday the Lions will travel to Romania for the first leg against Dinamo Bucuresti and the return match will take place the following week. If the Lions advance, they will have one more two-legged contest to book their place in the group stage. The summer isn’t over yet but things are already heating up.
