Three Primera Clubs Still Hoping To Sign Ager Aketxe On Loan

Aketxe is going to stay at Athletic, otherwise there will be a line of Primera clubs waiting to sign him. Those were the words of Cadiz manager Alvaro Cervera after Ager Aketxe ended his loan spell last season. While at Cadiz he managed to score five goals and provide two assists while being the best player in the team. Upon returning to Athletic this summer fans have immediately assumed that he will have a role in Kuko Ziganda’s team. However, there are a few Primera clubs hoping that they will still be able to sign him for the new campaign.

According to El Desmarque BizkaiaAketxe’s place in Ziganda’s team is safe. Offloading Unai Lopez and Javi Eraso has made that abundantly clear. Regardless, Getafe, Deportivo La Coruña, and Leganes are all still hopeful of signing the 23-year-old on loan this summer.

This preseason Aketxe has featured solely and extensively as the number two option for the attacking midfield role behind Raúl García. For the most part he has looked very capable and has been quite dangerous when distributing the ball to his teammates. The most noteworthy moment came against Liverpool when he played in Iñaki Williams who scored a beautiful goal. Still, Aketxe is a young player that doesn’t have a lot of experience in the Primera. He is still developing and growing at this stage of his career.

Even though there is interest from other clubs in Spain, it would be a shock if the midfielder left the club. His role in the team is clear and he has already featured in the Europa League during Athletic’s 3-0 win over Dinamo Bucuresti. Ager Aketxe has a very bright future and is being pegged to become a star at the San Mamés. Kuko Ziganda knows him better than anyone else and will be the perfect manager to help the Lezama product continue to develop while also playing an important role in the team.
