Yeray Is Officially Cancer Free

Athletic Club lost their second straight game of the season on Wednesday when they fell 2-1 to Atletico Madrid at the San Mamés. A missed penalty in the first half and wasted chances were the culprits that broke the Lions, but after the game there was certainly plenty to celebrate after the game as Yeray was announced to be cancer free for the second time in less than one year.

About one hour after the final whistle, Athletic Club released a statement saying that tests had come back showing that Yeray is officially cancer free. The player will receive his discharge in the coming days and will slowly be introduced back into the team. The defender has been waiting the last week to get his tests back and has been outspoken on social media about his desire to get back on the field and return to football.

As of now there is no word on exactly when Yeray will return to training or when he will be able to feature in an official match. Right now the important thing is that he is healthy once again and can now focus on getting back into football shape. Over the last few months he has been doing running drills with training Xabier Clemente and his teammates have said that he has been in a great mood. Thankfully, the Lions have been able to handle his absence quite well with Xabi Etxeita and Unai Nuñez stepping up in a big way.

Athletic Club will be back in action on Sunday when they will travel to La Rosaleda to take on Malaga and will be hoping to get back their winning ways. It will be interesting to see how Kuko Ziganda continues to rotate his players moving forward with Beñat and Iñaki Williams starting on the bench against Atletico Madrid. Regardless, the Lions have had played well to start the season and will need to take advantage of earning as many points as they can. No matter what happened on Wednesday, there is only one scoreline that counts. Yeray 2-0 Cancer. The Lezama product has beaten the dreaded disease…again.
